Laura Castille first joined Cuddy & McCarthy as a law clerk while completing law school.  After graduating cum laude from the University of New Mexico School of Law (J.D., 2014) and being admitted to the New Mexico Bar, she became an Associate in our Albuquerque office.  Her practice focuses on employment, disability, civil rights and education law.

Ms. Castille’s practice is focused on the representation of School Districts, Universities and other public entities.  She has appeared in court to represent public agency clients on cases involving breach of contract, preliminary injunctions and tort claims.  She has also represented public agency clients in a number of mediations and reached successful resolution in the majority of cases.  Ms. Castille also has extensive experience in responding to Charges of Discrimination against public agencies to the Equal Employment Opportunity Office, as well as the New Mexico Human Rights Division.

Ms. Castille has represented clients before the State Board of Finance seeking approval of contracts with national corporations with success.  She has acted as a liaison between School District clients and agencies of the State of New Mexico, including the New Mexico Public Education Department, the Attorney General’s Office and the Office of the Governor to resolve issues before harm came to the client.

Ms. Castille works with public entities to revise policies and procedures in order to create defensible practices for the agency.  She presents on topics ranging from employee evaluations and terminations to employee rights and sexual harassment.  Training and prevention are the areas of work that she finds to be the most important in protecting public entities from litigation.

Prior to attending law school, Ms. Castille worked as a teacher and administrator in public education for eighteen (18) years.  She was a high school teacher and then a Principal.  The last administrative position that she held before entering law school was Assistant Principal at West Mesa High School in Albuquerque.  Ms. Castille graduated from New Mexico State University (B.A., 1992), and completed a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction at NMSU in 1994.  In 2004, Ms. Castille received an Educational Specialist Certificate in Educational Leadership from the University of New Mexico.  She graduated from Alamogordo High School in Alamogordo, New Mexico and is proud to be a Tiger.
