Ms. Hetherington was born in Dallas, Texas in 1945.  She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in 1967. She attended the University di Firenze, Centro per Stranieri in 1967-68. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico in 1977.
